Acrylic, alcohol ink, sumi inks and gouache on clayboard

The flora in Thicket are inspired by that of Joshua Tree, California. The limb of a Joshua Tree droops at the top of the composition, with prickly pear and more imaginary plants at the bottom. This was an exploratory piece that began with an abstract application of alcohol inks and watercolor to clayboard, the actual plant forms taking shape later as I let the spontaneous presence of the alcohol ink elements dictate the final composition.
