Ruminor

12” x 15” framed (maple floater)
Oil & acrylic on panel
Inspired in part by a photo taken by James Abbe in the early 1900s, the female figure here seems to be ruminating on the delicate beauty of the flower in her hand. All humans can appreciate natural beauty, but I find the acknowledgment and inspection of what may be perceived as simply background items by some to be a skill well-honed by women and small children. I think pattern-making is well-served by noting pleasing details in our surroundings, and highlighting them through repetition - hence the patterned frame around the central vignette.
