The same structure depicted in “Tangled Arms” sits in nearer view in this painting. Two larger figures lead a smaller one up the ascending staircase, beckoning him to follow them upwards towards whatever greater view awaits them at the top. The piece pays homage to the responsibility owed to younger generations in leading them towards greater understanding of our role on this planet. The lesson feels particularly acute to me in this moment as I welcome my second child and my role as a parent takes center stage in my life.

This painting was part of my 2025 solo exhibition “Signs of Life” at Nahcotta in Portsmouth, NH.
