Given that I was pregnant during this one month stay in France, my typical travel activities did not reign over our time. Instead of sampling every wine in the region or exploring heavily by bike or kayak we tended to orbit closely around our rented home. This provided the chance to indulge in the quiet bounty provided by the dwelling in the French countryside and all of its delights. We spent most late afternoons on the patio, snacking on olives and cheeses from the local street market and weekends reading by the pool. We cooked considerable breakfasts each morning and ate them slowly together before parting ways to work in separate wings of the house. I sketched the myriad shrubs and waning blooms in the fall garden. This chapter in life, which reminded me a bit of covid lockdown, taught us to slow down and enjoy the delicacies of home.
