“Back to the Land” depicts a structure and landscape reminiscent of the plantation homes in the deep south with a large smoke plume rising above it - perhaps hinting at the end of this particular structure's life as the bones of it return to the land as ash. The painting parallels this moment during which so much of our country's history is in question, which can open up the door for the birth of something new and more peaceful as old beliefs and constructs meet the flame of scrutiny.
This painting was part of my solo exhibition “Signs of Life” at Nahcotta in Portsmouth, NH.
