An Abundant Silence

A large saguaro stands alone against a southwestern landscape in this close study of a Maynard Dixon painting. Similarly to how an encounter with an old-growth redwood forest feels, I always find it shocking to stumble upon a gigantic creature in a far-off place and realize that they’ve been living out there for ages… without us. It’s a ridiculous sentiment, but as a human it can be easy to forget that there is thriving life in the abundant silence outside of the worlds we have built. It is a refreshing reminder that we are just pieces in the vast web of life.
