‘Homestead’ is a commissioned piece. The commissioner grew up with a view of Pioneer Peak in Alaska. She wanted to commemorate her family’s home, soon to be sold. The piece itself combines multiple viewpoints and stylistic interpretations of the pine forests endemic to the area, creating the foreground to the Pioneer Peak subject. The structural symbology reflects the quiet existence of a home nestled in the forests under this iconic mountain range.
