'Charred’ is an abstract rendition of a pine forest after a wildfire. Wildfires are part of the rhythm of life in forested regions of the West - a truth that is baked into me after growing up in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. While destructive, they are also regenerative. The blackened portions of this painting are interrupted with regular bright pops, reflecting the cyclical nature of fire and re-growth.
